Council tables John Deere 331P skid loader lease after cost and quote concerns

The Wanamingo City Council discussed a proposed five-year lease and service agreement for a John Deere 331P compact track skid loader and tabled the proposal for further review on March 10, 2025.
Public-works presenter Brad Kennedy told the council the proposed lease price had increased "from $6,500/year to $12,800/year (or $6,300)" and described outreach to several equipment vendors. Kennedy said he contacted RDO, JCB and Ziegler; Ziegler (Caterpillar) returned an option that was a two-year $17,500/year lease. Kennedy suggested it might be advantageous to pursue government pricing and consider lease-to-purchase opportunities.
Councilmember Rebecca Haugen moved to table the resolution until the April meeting so staff could obtain additional quotes and evaluate lease-vs.-purchase options; Eric Dierks seconded and the motion passed 3-0-0.
The discussion focused on the wide variance among quotes and the potential to secure better terms through additional solicitation or government pricing.
