CEO says Zinke's office may provide emergency-communications funding; county seeks five support letters

County CEO Bill Everett said on March 10 that he received a phone call from "Zinke's office" offering to help the county obtain funds for emergency communications if the county submits a grant application immediately.
"He has some funds that he's trying to help us out with for our communication problems," Everett said, adding that staff member Toni Hofland is preparing the application on short notice. Everett asked for five letters from community members supporting the request to strengthen emergency-response communications.
Toni Hofland told the meeting the office would like the letters by Friday. Chairman Kevin Hart and County Attorney Morgan Smith both volunteered to provide letters when asked; CEO Everett also asked members of the press and members of the public present for help locating other community signatories.
Everett said a similar contact previously resulted in funding for county fiber-optic work. No formal action or commitments of county funds were taken at the meeting; staff continued to prepare the grant application outside of the formal agenda.
