Historic Resources Board approves CLG application, oral-history contacts and routine minutes

The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Historic Resources Board on March 5 approved several routine but consequential items: the Certified Local Government (CLG) application for 2026–2027, a slate of oral-history interview contacts funded by a Montana 250 grant, and corrections to and approval of prior meeting minutes.

Tammy Mattson moved to approve the CLG application for 2026–2027; Lynette Foulger seconded the motion and it passed 5-0. The board’s approval advances the locality’s status as a CLG applicant for the coming program year.

Gayla Hess told the board that oral-history work will be funded by a Montana 250 Grant and that an agreement with Clark had been approved by the Commission for at least eight new interviews; the board voted to approve the potential names to be contacted for oral history (motion by Rose Nyman; seconded by Terry LaValley; passed 5-0). Gayla noted that Clark expects there may be opportunity for more interviews when editing time is considered for program material and a dedicated website.

The board also addressed routine agenda items: Rose Nyman moved to approve the February 5, 2026 meeting minutes after minor corrections (motion seconded by Lynette Foulger; motion carried 4-0 with Tammy not present to vote). Terry LaValley moved to accept an April advertising proof with a WWI helmet profile; Lynette seconded and the motion passed 5-0.

These approvals place the board and staff in position to proceed with grant-funded oral-history work and to submit the CLG application on schedule. The board’s next regular meeting is April 2, 2026.
