The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Historic Resources Board on March 5 finalized logistics for a June 13 dedication of a Phoebe Hearst bronze statue, approving honorees, ticket pricing and table sales as part of fundraising and celebration plans.
Board members agreed to start the event at 5:00 p.m. rather than 5:30 p.m. Rose Nyman reported she has been coordinating with the artist and learned the statue itself will display the foundry stamp, artist name and year near the book; she said she will follow up on granite and foundry coordination for installation. The artist is expected to give brief remarks at the dedication.
Tammy Mattson moved to recognize nine honorees at the dedication; the motion was seconded by Terry LaValley and passed 5-0. The board set the admission price at $25 per person (motion passed 5-0) and established $175 per table for seating of eight (motion passed 5-0); honorees will receive gifted tickets. The board discussed selling tickets at local businesses such as the Forge and the Elks and through board members, and using promotion channels including The Leader, the MT Standard event listings, the Discover Anaconda calendar and Facebook.
Members discussed silent-auction logistics and timing, recommending the auction run early in the event with a planned end before 8:30 p.m. to allow reconciliation; the MC will be asked to make announcements and a final call. Rose and Lynette reported potential donated auction items, and Tammy and Lynette will coordinate food and music with the Elks. Rose suggested a parchment tied with a ribbon for honorees and recommended featuring a picture of Phoebe Hearst on printed tickets.
The board also discussed event décor and a possible photobooth for a future year. The group confirmed event staffing and roles: the planned MC will dress as Marcus Daly and is expected to introduce the welcoming speaker and the artist. The board agreed to continue refining ticket authentication and distribution methods prior to the event.
The board adjourned at 11:15 a.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for April 2, 2026.
