Plains Township commissioners approve bills, hires and request PennDOT truck study

The treasurer reported May General Fund receipts of $5,034,665.29, disbursements of $1,024,952.50 and an ending balance of $5,098,633.86.
In motions recorded at the meeting, the board authorized payment of Utility Bills ($30,891.47) and Regular Bills ($230,010.07) for a combined total of $260,901.54 (motion BY: Condusta; 2ND: Sax). The motion carried; Commissioner Ciro Cinti recorded an abstention on the Assured Partners bill.
The board also approved Payment Application No. 1 for the North Beech Road Drainage Project in the amount of $73,246.26 to Franchelli Enterprises (motion BY: Condusta; 2ND: Sax). The board ratified the hiring of Tait Stahovic (DPW summer help, effective June 8) and the re-hiring of Ashley Shorts for Recreation summer help (effective June 11).
Commissioners appointed Tony Domiano to the Plains Township Planning Commission, with a term to expire Dec. 31, 2026, and voted to request an updated PennDOT traffic study for truck traffic on East and West Saylor Avenue. Commissioner Ciro Cinti said an earlier study was done three years ago and “there has been an increase in truck traffic,” arguing a new study is needed because warehouse development has raised truck volumes.
The board also approved hiring Aaron Joseph Vargas as an entry-level police officer effective July 4, 2026, subject to successful completion of physical, psychological and background examinations required by the police union contract and civil service rules (motion BY: Sax; 2ND: Cinti).
The board set its next regular meeting for July 6 at 7:00 p.m. and announced several office closures and temporary trash-collection adjustments for the holiday week.
