South Range prioritizes repaving, repairs and sidewalk work after Fourth of July maintenance

The Village of South Range council on July 9 designated two priority areas for repaving and directed staff to request bids from local contractors.
Council singled out the intersection of Fourth and Globe and the section of road between the Community Hall and Miner’s State Bank as priority areas for repaving this year. The council instructed staff to solicit bids from local contractors for the work.
Assistant Street Commissioner D. Swetich reported the public-works crew had been ‘‘extremely busy preparing for the 4th of July,’’ repainted road lines and parking spots, located and fixed a water leak near Fourth Street and M-26, serviced fire hydrants, and completed a lagoon inspection with EGLE. Swetich also said sidewalk repairs will start based on previous resident requests.
President Eakin directed Public Works to permanently remove the stop sign at the top of Trimountain Avenue; no timeline for the removal was given. Council also discussed exploring grants for future park improvements after deciding to remove playground equipment that sits off Village-owned land.
No contractor bids were presented at the meeting; council directed staff to request proposals. The council did not set a firm construction timeline during the session.
