Chair Scott Grant updated the board that he had spoken with Sean Shannon of Glen Aggregates about stump piles, access and safety concerns at the gravel pit. The board requested that Shannon create two fire breaks—wide enough for emergency vehicles and located roughly one‑third in from each end of the pile—and improve site access so fire trucks can back in.
"If he doesn’t do what we are asking him to do he had better come in with a fairly clear plan of what he intends to do," Grant said, describing a July 1 deadline for visible progress. Several members stressed that the immediate priority is fire safety rather than longer‑term site housekeeping.
Board members discussed enforcement options under RSA 153 (state law covering quarry and pit oversight) and asked staff to request written confirmation of a remediation plan. Heather Forbes said she believed the board had given Shannon prior notice and that a measured deadline was reasonable; David Shedd and other members reinforced that the Selectmen and town consultants would inspect the site.
Next steps: The chair will contact Shannon to relay the board’s expectations and the group will review progress at or after the July 1 milestone; staff will document communications and consider further enforcement if necessary.
