Police commission reports modest staffing gains, new equipment and slightly lower crime rate

The report said five of the vehicles ordered to support an officer vehicle take-home program have been delivered to the West Memphis-Memphis shop and five to the Little Rock shop; new e-ticket software units are in place and new badges were scheduled for delivery on July 11. The representative said the department’s new policy had been approved and that training plans (including bike-control classes and a driving class) are underway.
"We are showing a 1.16% drop in overall crime stats as of as of 08:15 on 07/06/2026," the police representative said in the meeting. The department said its goal is for officers to be more visible and proactive in problem areas.
What happens next: department leaders will continue staffing and equipment rollouts and bring training updates to future commission or council reports.
