Council sends ordinances 52–59 back to service committee for revision

The Bucyrus City Council voted on Dec. 16 to refer a package of proposed ordinances (nos. 52–59, 2025) back to the service committee for further work after members and the law director identified formatting and content errors. The motion to refer was made from the floor and seconded; the chair called the vote and the motion passed.
Council member Vicki Deshaun objected to considering imperfect legislation at a full council meeting, saying she had provided a list of corrections to the law director but found many of the changes had not been applied in the packet. Deshaun urged that legislation be finalized in committee so council time is not spent amending bills at full meetings.
Service committee chair reported the ordinances will be discussed at the committee’s next meeting to resolve the flagged issues. Council also noted committee housekeeping and the special finance schedule that will bring year-end appropriations and related referrals to finance for review.
The referral preserves council’s ability to reintroduce finalized ordinances at a future full meeting; no final adoptions of these ordinances occurred on Dec. 16.
