John, identified in the meeting as the Township of Montclair planning board chair, accepted the recognition and described his work as volunteer service. “Serving my community and all of the things that I’ve done in the community have been volunteer,” he said, adding that he does not seek acknowledgement but appreciated being thanked. John said he is retiring and hopes to “make room for someone else” so others can have an opportunity to serve.
The chair thanked John’s family for supporting his time on the board, noting that volunteer meeting hours are often spent away from family, and reiterated congratulations. No votes, motions, or policy actions were recorded during the commendation.
The board paused to take photographs and moved on to other agenda items.
