County approves sheriff and prosecutor investigator settlements; board discusses retro pay timing

Jerome Saint John, county counsel, presented memoranda of agreement settling contracts with sheriff’s‑office superior ranks and prosecutor investigators for calendar years 2024 and 2025. Saint John described the terms as a multi‑year agreement with phased increases (including 2% raises in 2024 and 2025 for one unit) and a bifurcated retro payment approach tied to prior arbitration and statutory cost‑ing considerations.
Saint John said the county prepared funds for salary retro payments and that some pension‑related recalculations handled by the state will take additional time. Vice President Cooper and other commissioners pressed for an estimate of timing; administration staff said salary retro payments have taken roughly 45–60 days in prior cases, but pension adjustments may take longer and require state interaction.
Commissioners also asked whether similar terms had been offered to the remaining outstanding bargaining unit; counsel said offers consistent with arbitration outcomes had been made and that the last outstanding unit may be resolved in short order. The board moved and approved resolution 42 (and related 43) by roll call.
