Ely council approves redevelopment grant, ordinance first reading, representation consent and opioid settlement release

At its July 24 meeting the Ely City Council approved several consent and routine items.
The Redevelopment Agency approved a commercial grant application submitted by property owner Kurt Carson for $13,565.50; the Council approved the associated consent motions unanimously.
Councilmembers also approved the first reading of Ordinance 764 (Bill No. 2025-04), amending the Ely Municipal Code to exempt the City Attorney from the White Pine County residency requirement, aligning the code with NRS 266.400. City Attorney Chris Arabia characterized the measure as an alignment with state statute.
The Council confirmed consent for Thompson Hine LLP to represent the City and Nevada Northern Railway Foundation in a wireline crossing agreement with Beehive Telephone Company after conflict waivers were addressed. The Council also approved granting releases under Exhibit K of the Purdue/Sackler bankruptcy settlement, with an estimated allocation of $2,152.50 to the City.
All listed items were approved by unanimous vote.
