The Noxon School District board approved entering contract negotiations with Side By Side Educational Consulting to provide literacy professional development and instructional coaching supported by the district’s CLSD grant.
Carrie Cole, president of Side By Side, described her firm's work with the science of reading and explained the model: training plus in‑classroom coaching and coaching‑the‑coach to ensure sustained classroom practice. Cole said the firm has experience with federal CLSD grants and that the Office of Public Instruction (OPI) maintains an approved‑vendor list that had not yet been released; she said she had applied to that list but the final vendor roster was pending. "We can provide the professional development needed as Mr. Ramsey said in terms of the science of reading," Cole told trustees.
Trustees pressed for a written proposal and contract showing scope and cost before final approval. Administration and Cole said the work would be primarily grant‑funded; Cole said logistics and exact costs would be outlined in a forthcoming contract. Trustees directed administration to negotiate terms and return a specific contract for board review and vote at the next meeting.
The motion approved at this meeting authorized negotiation and review of a contract; trustees did not approve a final contract amount or scope at this session.
