Operations center progress, main interruptions and project timelines reported to Waukesha Water Utility Commission

Commission staff updated the Waukesha City Water Utility Commission on operational progress and incidents at the Feb. 19 meeting.
Matt (presenter) gave a construction update on the new operations center: the shop roof is complete, office framing is under way, windows are installed in most of the building and some interior areas are heated to allow slab pours. He said the site is on schedule and "so far" under budget and that solar panels are planned for the roof. Staff have temporarily blocked wash-bay doors to keep heat inside so workers can pour slabs and continue interior work.
Staff also reported 11 main interruptions since last month and described a current main break in a neighborhood that affected roughly 25 houses. Matt said the utility is working on isolating and repairing the break and that in some neighborhoods water mains are sited on private property without clear easements; the utility will need to relocate mains to front yards and hire plumbers to alter indoor services over a multi-year schedule to address service-location and easement issues. "We've talked about this a little bit before...over the next 3 years, 3 to 5 years, you'll be seeing us with projects in this area moving, put installing mains in the front, installing services," Matt said.
Regulatory updates included a passed state lab inspection (January) and a diversion report prepared with SmithGroup that is in final quality control and due for submission March 1. Staff also described outreach with the Village of Oswego on its future transition from groundwater to Lake Michigan water and offered a facility tour and a regional presentation.
On projects, staff confirmed Bidwell and Prospect water-main work will begin March 14; resurfacing bids return March 6; Davidson Road bids were pulled for contracting-type clarification; and the Airline Trail easement work is nearing resolution with routing coordination ongoing.
The commission heard these administrative and operational items for information; no formal votes were required on the updates. The meeting adjourned at 5:10 p.m.
