Ely updates: Nevada Northern Railway ridership, rising food-bank demand and Georgetown Ranch water concerns

Nevada Northern Railway: NNRY President Mark Bassett reported October ridership of 1,565 and year-to-date ridership of 12,163 (a 1% increase year over year). Bassett outlined locomotive and rolling-stock maintenance needs, ongoing restorations, and estimated October economic impact from train passengers of roughly $272,310 based on an average per-visitor non-gaming expenditure of $174.
White Pine Ministerial Association food bank: Paul Podborny reported the food bank moved into a larger space behind Economy Drug and has added two commercial refrigerators/freezers. He said the food bank averages 83 families (212 individuals) per month and has seen a surge of demand in early November; recent USDA commodity deliveries have lacked meat for several months, but local donations and an Elks Lodge grant are helping to fill protein needs. Podborny said volunteers are preparing Thanksgiving bags and left applications for residents in need.
Georgetown Ranch quarterly report: A written update from Betsy K. Vogler noted inconsistent ditch flows, winter hay purchases and fence repairs, 105 cattle on the ranch at the time of the report, and plans for possible NRCS piping projects and winter seeding; the report asked to be included in discussions about any possible use of the golf course well.
These reports were informational and produced no immediate council action.
