Trail maintenance and signage dominated a block of the Commission’s May 27 discussion. Vice Chair John Fournier summarized history and outstanding needs for the Slade All-Person Trail — a kiosk design, donor plaque and gates for an HOA — and noted possible additional benches. Members then turned to blazes and closed-trail signs that were removed at Saw Mill North.
Selectman Paul Wainwright said some blazes and closed-trail signs need replacement and proposed the DPW director install posts on Marshall Town Forest as part of his duties. Member Jeff Nenart reported that an individual had pulled down several blazes at Sawyer and that the Commission plans to replace plastic markers with paint-based blazes.
Motion and vote: Member Monique Chrétien moved that Selectman Wainwright lead efforts to blaze Saw Mill North; Secretary Suzie Newman seconded. The motion passed 6-0-0. Later, Secretary Newman moved that Selectman Wainwright lead the perambulation of Chadwick Town Forest; Member Nenart seconded and the motion passed 7-0-0. Member Charlie Pitts had volunteered earlier to be a point person for related work; Alternate Robin Doyle joined the meeting and became a voting member.
What’s next: Work will be coordinated with the Town Administrator and DPW; Chair Steele will coordinate with John Apple and Member Pitts on logistics and timing.
