The City of Richmond Board of Works and Safety completed a series of routine approvals and referrals at its meeting.
The board approved the minutes from July 9. The Chair read the Board\'s accounts payable total (transcribed in the record as $185,304) and payroll of $1,026,934.15; both were approved by voice vote after a member moved and a second was provided.
Aaron Stevens, Administrative Resource Officer with the Richmond Police Department, presented three handicap-sign renewal requests at 121 Southwest E Street, 111 South 5th Street and 114 North 16th Street. "I've checked them, personally, and they all do meet the criteria of the city ordinance," Stevens said. The board approved the sign renewals by voice vote.
Stevens also described a late-added street-closure request for the 1200 block of South 4th Street for an all-day neighborhood block party to honor two recently deceased neighbors. He said the street is a one-way dead end and will not require barricades because neighbors are managing safety. The board approved the closure.
The board reviewed two bids for six 2026 Ford Explorer Police Interceptors: Wetzel Ford (unit price $49,309; total $295,854) and Bob Maxey Ford (total $275,670). The chair asked to refer the bids to Purchasing (Karen Owen) for further evaluation; the board approved that referral by voice vote.
Next steps: Purchasing will evaluate the police-vehicle bids and staff will finalize sign renewals and the street-closure permit.
