Director details recycling equipment purchase, baler arrival and planned route changes

At the board iscussion of the director nd operations, the director reported the district purchased a baler and a compactor to improve recycling processing and said both pieces of equipment are expected on-site the week of Aug. 24, 2026. Staff plan to run the equipment for several weeks to work out issues, then publish public notices roughly a month before changing routes, with route changes targeted for late October or early November and phased distribution of recycling containers continuing into early 2027.
The director also said the district recently submitted a household hazardous waste grant; award notification is expected in December. The director noted the Wayne Union recycling/solid waste district dissolved last year and that the county agreed the district could help coordinate countywide collections if the grant is awarded; the county would reimburse the district—or county residents' portion of collections.
The director described asset-management progress (GPS units, front-facing cameras and route-mapping software) that will help trace missed stops, assign catch-up work and record container repairs. The director said staff are working to crosswalk historical categories as they move to new asset-management codes so past records remain comparable.
