Trustees in Duncan on May 11 approved a series of routine operational and personnel items, including a park mulch purchase, two volunteer firefighter appointments, and acceptance of the treasurer’s resignation.
Utility Superintendent Doug Michalak reported the park had used all previously obtained rubber mulch and that he needed approximately seven additional bags to complete the play area. Clerk Marianna Evans said $5,000 had been budgeted for park mulch but noted that freight charges on the new quote could double the cost; she said she would check whether freight was a delivery fee or a carrier charge and try to eliminate freight if the mulch could be picked up in Omaha. Trustees approved a motion, 5–0, authorizing Michalak to order rubber mulch at the best price that remained within the $5,000 budget.
The board reviewed applications for volunteer firefighter/EMT positions and approved two applicants, Trey Stempek and Troy Wiese. Chairperson Schlesinger made the motion to approve both applications, which carried unanimously.
Treasurer Michelle Schindel informed the board she had accepted a full-time job in Lincoln and formally resigned. The board accepted her resignation; Trustee Denbo abstained from the resignation vote due to absence during prior related business. Clerk Evans was instructed to post the Treasurer position. After reviewing monthly bills with Schindel, trustees voted to pay the bills.
The meeting closed after the board handled these items and a schedule for the next regular meeting was announced.
