Ely City Council on Aug. 28 authorized the City Attorney to begin court proceedings to evict the remaining tenants at White Pine Mobile Park following a 30-day extension and continued owner noncompliance.
City Building Official Don Hendrickson reported the number of families living in White Pine Mobile Park had fallen from 10 to six at the time of his update, with one tenant notifying staff they planned to move in two weeks. Hendrickson said owner Mark Moattar had made little effort to comply with prior council direction. City Attorney Chris Arabia recommended initiating court-ordered removal as a last resort and said the process would be time-consuming; he pledged to treat tenants with courtesy and to consider assistance avenues where appropriate.
Councilman Terrill Trask moved and the council unanimously approved authorizing the city attorney to start eviction proceedings. Public commenters raised concerns about displacement and limited housing availability in Ely; several asked the council to consider alternatives and assistance for tenants with disabilities.
