Cheyenne Ketchum, Southport’s public information officer, told the Board of Aldermen on Jan. 8 that the specialty license plate campaign has 172 preorders toward a 500‑order statutory minimum. Proceeds will be used for emergency preparedness initiatives; Ketchum said the first goal is about 40 disaster-preparedness kits once the plate is produced and funds are returned from the NCDMV.
Ketchum also previewed a new city website and the migration to the cityofsouthport.gov domain, explaining that current .com bookmarks will redirect. The public information officer said the go‑live date is planned for February 2026 and that email aliases will switch so existing addresses continue to work.
Ketchum said the city increased campaign visibility with weekly posts and a low-cost sponsored Facebook ad to boost preorders, and reminded residents that preorders are open to anyone with a noncommercial North Carolina-registered vehicle.
