Jackson Schwartz, co-owner of Momentum gym, told the workshop the business wants to expand its public gym from Rooms 4 and 5 into adjacent Room 6 to ease congestion and add equipment for older members.
Schwartz said the gym currently serves 170 gym members and expects about 800 member visits this month; roughly 9% of members come from Barrett. He described removing the wall between Rooms 5 and 6, adjusting fixtures and removing cabinets and billboards to prepare the space. The expansion aims to improve peak-hour congestion for cardio equipment, add machines for upper-body workouts and create a stretch area; the co-owners also hope to eventually qualify for the SilverSneakers program, which could allow Medicare members to participate.
Board members asked about cost and room charges. Patty and the Chair said the township will need cost estimates; possibilities discussed included charging by square footage or adjusting membership-percentage fees for room use. Schwartz cautioned the SilverSneakers option is not yet guaranteed: the gym lacks some qualifying senior equipment at present.
The board expressed support for the concept and noted Room 6 is available; no formal decision or lease change was made at the workshop. The expansion remains at an early planning stage while the gym and township discuss pricing and build-out costs.
