The City of Monroe Public Safety Committee unanimously approved two special-event permits on a routine agenda Tuesday, clearing a seasonal Main Street farmers market and a night market and pocket-park opening for the coming season.
The committee chair opened the meeting and the clerk conducted a roll call that recorded Alder Schafer, Alder Cleveland, Alder Warren Wyler and Alder Franke as present. The committee then approved the minutes from the March 23 meeting without correction.
On item C1, the Police Department presented a recommendation to approve a special-event permit for the Main Street minerals outdoor farmers market. The clerk said the market is an annual event that will begin May 2, operating Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. and Wednesdays at noon in the downtown area. "This is an annual event, put on Main Street," the clerk said. A motion to approve was made and seconded; the clerk recorded four aye votes and the motion passed.
On item C2, the committee considered a permit for the City of Monroe night market and a pocket park opening ceremony scheduled for May 16, with operating hours listed as roughly 3 to 9 p.m. and the heaviest activity projected between about 5 and 8 p.m. The clerk noted the proposal was similar to an event held last September and that staff recommended forwarding a temporary Class B license to the full council for consideration. A motion to approve C2 was made and seconded and passed unanimously.
The committee had no additional business. The chair moved to adjourn; the motion carried and the meeting was adjourned.
