Monroe Police and Fire Commission appoints Nathan Fultz as police chief

The City of Monroe Police and Fire Commission voted 4-0 to appoint Nathan Fultz as the next police chief, the commission announced at its meeting. Four commissioners voted in favor; one member was absent.

The appointment follows a multi-panel interview process in which the commission divided into two panels and invited four community stakeholders to participate. After the interviews the commission met in closed discussion, excused the community members and directed the city administrator to contact two finalists and finalize compensation and administrative details, the chair said.

Commissioners moved and seconded the appointment; the commission conducted a roll call and recorded affirmative votes from Dave Denninger, Jerry Guth, Amanda Fields and Robin McLeish. Jacob Gardner was absent for the vote. The motion carried, and the chair asked if chief-designate Fultz had any remarks.

'2I'd just like to really say thank you. I'm very grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to leading the staff at the police department and serving the community of the City of Monroe to the best of my abilities,'2 Nathan Fultz said, expressing appreciation for the appointment.

A commissioner confirmed that a press release announcing the appointment will be sent; chief-designate Fultz confirmed he had seen and approved the draft. With no further business, the commission moved to adjourn.

The commission noted Chief Kelly's retirement is expected in about six weeks and that administrative details related to the transition have been completed by city staff.
