AKRON, Mich. — Two residents spoke during the public-comment portion of the Village of Akron Council's May 19 meeting about property changes and driveway access.
Resident R. Church told the council he cut a curb without prior permission, said he would pay a fine if one were issued, and apologized. The minutes state the DPW inspected the curb and found it did not affect water drainage and was not cut too large under the zoning ordinance; the council accepted the apology and instructed Church to seek permission before future curb cuts.
Another resident, N. Chaney, asked to place a storage container on his property and requested a curb cut along School Street so he could park in front of his home (his address is on School Street but his driveway is on North Street). The council said a container would be acceptable "if the container was not old, rusty, and an eye-sore for the community," and asked the DPW to investigate the proposed driveway location and drainage implications. Final approval was contingent on DPW findings.
The minutes record no fines issued at the meeting and no formal enforcement orders; both residents left the meeting after their comments.
