River Park hit by another flood; town announces weekend schedule and free entry starting Oct. 28

Town staff reported that River Park experienced another flood event that closed the park and required cleanup before reopening. Ron Bivins told the board Oct. 21 that crews had to clean the park after the flood and that the event represented the third-highest recorded water level.
Bivins said that beginning Oct. 28 the park will waive entry fees and operate on a limited schedule — open Fridays through Sundays only — through March. The board discussed the additional need for storage and noted plans to move an old storage unit near the cook shack to River Park for better equipment storage.
Commissioners did not vote on emergency repair funding at the Oct. 21 meeting; they approved separately a $3,000 contract with Truman Services for electrical, brick and flashing work at the old police building and tennis court (that contract is unrelated to flood cleanup in the minutes).
