Planning Board adopts public comment policy, approves rezoning at 126 E. Jay St. and schedules further review on Abattoir Road

The Town of Coats Planning Board unanimously approved changes to the Planning Board public comment policy at its Sept. 4 meeting. Town Manager Barbara Hollerand explained the policy was adopted by the Town Board on Aug. 14, 2025 and that staff recommended textual edits to replace references to 'Town Board' with 'Planning Board' and to substitute 'Chair' for 'Mayor' where applicable; the board adopted the edits (motion by Misty Gil; second by Clint Latham; approved 7‑0).
The board also unanimously approved rezoning case RZ 25‑02 for 126 E. Jay Street. Hollerand explained that changes to mapping in July 2022 had altered the parcel’s zoning from a prior R20 classification (which allowed church use) to RMST, which no longer allowed church use; the board approved the application as presented (motion by Clint Latham; second by Lawrence Denning; approved 7‑0).
Finally, the board set a continuation to Sept. 11 to allow additional information and configurations to be reviewed on RZ 25‑01 (1380 Abattoir Road). The continuance vote was unanimous (motion by Clint Latham; second by Mitchell Pope; approved 7‑0).
