Redington Shores board reviews $10.7 million FY25/26 budget, discusses disaster contingency for building-permit waivers

Accountant Andy Tess presented the Town of Redington Shores' proposed FY25/26 budget at a Aug. 27 workshop, saying, "The total budget is $10,733,570," and outlining its three major components: $4,061,225 in the General Fund, $5,232,345 in the Capital Improvement Fund and $1,440,000 in the Sewer Fund.
The presentation and subsequent discussion focused chiefly on building-department revenue and contingency planning. Commissioner Doug Harr asked about the town's approach if building-permit fees were waived after a disaster. Accountant Tess said the town would move some unreserved funds into a designated contingency to cover waived fees, and stressed that “the current budgeted amount for that fund would be in addition to any agreement the town makes with a building department service company in the future.”
No formal motions or votes were taken at the workshop. Town staff identified municipal officials present and reminded the board of the schedule for the upcoming public hearings on the budget: the first public hearing is set for Sept. 3, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.; the regular commission meeting will occur Sept. 10, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.; and the final public hearing on the budget is scheduled for Sept. 15, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
The workshop record does not specify the exact dollar amount moved into the contingency fund, only that a portion of unreserved funds would be set aside for that purpose. The session adjourned at 6:07 p.m.
The board is expected to take any formal action, including adoption of the budget, at the scheduled public hearings in September.
