Realtor’s proposed billboard referred to Cooleemee’s new Planning Board

At the Sept. 16 meeting the Cooleemee Board of Commissioners heard a presentation from Josh Ijames seeking permission for an 8‑by‑16‑foot sign to be installed near Dollar General, 10–12 feet high and staying below the existing tree line. Ijames told commissioners he intended to use the sign to advertise his real estate business "in hopes of generating interest in buying a home in Cooleemee." The board agreed the sign is not allowed under current zoning and asked the newly constituted Planning Board to visit the site and make a recommendation.
Commissioner Tippett had moved to add Ijames’s request to the agenda as an addendum; that motion carried before Ijames presented. The Planning Board appointments approved at the meeting will create the panel that reviews the application. The commissioners did not make a final decision on the sign during the Sept. 16 meeting.
The Planning Board will consider the proposal and return a recommendation to the board of commissioners at a future meeting.
