The Mountainair Public Schools board on Sept. 23 approved routine payments and payroll across the district's funds and received administrative updates on audits, facilities and forthcoming policies.
Mr. Victor Romero moved and Mrs. Kristin Oliver seconded to approve payments of all bills and payroll, including Operational, Title I, Cafeteria, Transportation, SB‑9, PSCOC, Instructional Materials, Debt Service, Title IV, Title II, AP Bills and Bond Building funds; the board also approved the district's annual inventory of capital assets. The motion was recorded as carried unanimously.
Business Manager Peter Nieto told the board he attended NMASBO, noted a DFA per‑diem increase (no receipts required), has paid the month's bills and has begun audit preparations; the audit entrance meeting was scheduled for the coming Monday. Nieto also reported hiring Omar Colorio as the new custodian and said work on the tech bond and ordering of middle school computers will follow once outstanding issues are addressed.
Superintendent Dr. Pedro Vallejo distributed MPS bond election FAQs and talking points and noted administrative items including a completed staff handbook, work on the safe schools plan, an AI policy due Oct. 10, 2025, and a substitute teacher handbook in development. He said district addresses will change in October (Central Office to 801 Main St; MHS to 806 Main St), a variable frequency drive (VFD) will be installed in the high school library, and the district is awaiting one more quote for mini splits at the MHS cafeteria and weight room.
Board President Darrell Roberts said he would identify members for the finance committee and arrange a meeting. The board adjourned at 7:09 p.m.
