Yutan Public Schools board approves athletic co-ops, accepts audit and okays HVAC glycol bid; enters closed session on negotiations

At its Dec. 8 meeting the Yutan Public Schools Board approved two-year cooperative agreements with Mead Public Schools for softball and 7–12 cross country, accepted the 2024–25 financial audit, authorized a $32,829 glycol contract for elementary HVAC protection, and entered closed session on bargaining and the superintendent evaluation.
The Yutan Public Schools Board of Education met Dec. 8, 2025, in the high school media center and approved several routine items aimed at preserving student activities and maintaining district facilities.
Vice President Judy Daniell called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the board recorded a 4–0 roll call (Judy Daniell, Gary Hollst, Dan Ridder and Eric Wilke present; Bill Hancock and Adam Wacker absent). The board noted the meeting was conducted under the Nebraska Open Meetings Act and that meeting notices were published and posted as required.
In business actions, the board approved a two-year cooperative agreement with Mead Public Schools to continue a combined high school softball team for the 2026–2027 and 2027–2028 school years, a separate two-year cooperative agreement with Mead to continue 7–12 boys and girls cross country for the same school years, and routine policy updates. Each of those motions passed on unanimous roll call votes of the members present.
The board also accepted the district’s 2024–25 annual financial audit performed by Bergan KDV/Creative Planning; the audit was submitted by the statutory filing deadline of Nov. 5. The approval was taken by motion and a 4–0 roll call vote.
To protect chilled-water HVAC equipment at Yutan Elementary School, the board authorized the superintendent to enter a contract not to exceed $32,829.00 to add glycol to the district’s chiller system. The motion passed on a 4–0 roll call vote.
Administrative written reports from the elementary principal, high school principal, activities director, student services director and the superintendent were provided; those reports are on file with the district. The board reviewed additional policy items for information only (including policies on student records, directory information, communication with parents, parental rights, law enforcement contact, and student illness) and took no action on those items during the meeting.
The board moved and approved entering a closed session to discuss collective bargaining negotiations with the Yutan Education Association and to conduct the superintendent’s evaluation. The board met in closed session from 7:16 p.m. to 8:10 p.m.; no action was taken during the closed session. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 12, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the high school media center.
