Yutan board recognizes teachers’ association for 2027–28, declines early retirement incentive for 2025–26

The Yutan Public Schools Board of Education met Oct. 13, 2025, in the high school media center and took two formal personnel-related votes: it declined to offer an Early Retirement Incentive Program (ERIP) for the 2025–26 school year and it recognized the Yutan Education Association (YEA) as the bargaining agent for non‑supervisory certificated staff for the 2027–28 contract year.
The meeting was called to order at 6:17 p.m. by Board President Adam Wacker. Attendance was recorded: Judy Daniell, Bill Hancock and Gary Hollst were present; Dan Ridder and Eric Wilke were absent. The board excused the absences by unanimous roll-call vote of members present.
On business items, the board considered policy 4063 (Early Retirement Incentive Program) and voted to decline offering an ERIP for the 2025–26 year. The motion to decline was made by Judy Daniell and seconded by Bill Hancock; the roll-call vote was Daniell: Yes; Hancock: Yes; Hollst: Yes; Wacker: Yes; Ridder: Absent; Wilke: Absent. The motion carried.
The board then considered recognition of the Yutan Education Association as the bargaining unit for the district’s non‑supervisory certificated employees for the 2027–28 contract year. Bill Hancock moved to recognize the YEA and Gary Hollst seconded; the board approved the recognition by roll-call vote with the same yes/absent pattern as above.
The board approved the consent agenda, which included the minutes of the Sept. 8, 2025 meeting and the treasurer’s report and claims. Written reports were submitted by the elementary principal, high school principal, activities director, student services director and the superintendent; no substantive public comments were submitted during the public-comment period.
For planning, the board discussed forming the negotiations team for 2026–27 and noted the team must meet prior to Nov. 1 to begin negotiations. Trustees also listed a set of policies to review at the Nov. 10, 2025 meeting, including policies numbered 5001, 5002, 5003, 5004, 5005, 5015 and 5018. The board noted the meeting notice had been published in the Wahoo Newspaper on Oct. 3, 2025, and posted at district locations and online on Oct. 8, 2025.
The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Nov. 10, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the high school media center and adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
