Wymore council approves minutes, payroll and claims; names Mike Rath police chief

The Wymore City Council on July 1 approved the minutes from its previous meeting, cleared payroll and claims after a series of roll-call motions, scheduled a July 22 budget workshop and accepted Mayor Collin Meints’ nomination of Mike Rath as police chief.
Council President Sue Sapp called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and noted the meeting notice was posted at the Wymore Post Office, Arbor State Pharmacy, the City Office and published in the Fairbury Journal News. Present were Council members Max Allen, Sue Sapp, Curt Oblinger and Neil Van Boening; Mayor Collin Meints was absent.
A motion by Council member Max Allen, seconded by Neil Van Boening, approved the minutes of the prior meeting by a 4-0 vote. The council then approved claims and payroll with a motion by Allen, seconded by Van Boening, excluding three checks (#31382, #31437 and #31394); that omnibus motion carried 4-0. The council later voted separately to approve checks #31382 and #31437 (motion carried 3-0 with Allen recorded as abstaining) and to approve check #31394 (motion carried 3-0 with Curt Oblinger recorded as abstaining).
The council set a Budget Workshop for July 22, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.
The council accepted Mayor Meints’ nomination of Mike Rath for Police Chief in a motion by Max Allen, seconded by Neil Van Boening; the appointment passed 4-0. There was no further discussion on police department business recorded in the minutes.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:36 p.m.
