The Yutan Public Schools Board of Education on Jan. 12 completed its annual reorganization, electing Adam Wacker as president, Judy Daniell as vice president, Bill Hancock as secretary and Gary Hollst as treasurer, and approved a series of routine financial and policy actions.
President Adam Wacker called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. in the high school media center and noted that the meeting was conducted in accordance with the Nebraska Open Meetings Act. Roll call showed six members present: Judy Daniell, Bill Hancock, Gary Hollst, Dan Ridder and Eric Wilke.
During the reorganization, Eric Wilke nominated Wacker for president; Wacker accepted and, with no other nominations, was declared elected. Gary Hollst nominated Judy Daniell for vice president; Hollst nominated Bill Hancock for secretary; and Daniell nominated Hollst for treasurer. Each nomination was accepted and declared elected by the board.
The board approved the meeting agenda and a consent agenda that included the December minutes and the treasurer’s report. Both motions passed on unanimous roll-call votes (6-0).
On finance matters, the board approved annual authorizations naming the Wahoo Newspaper and Omaha World-Herald as newspapers of general circulation, KSB School Law and BairdHolm as legal counsel, and First State Bank of Yutan as the district depository. The board also approved delegations of signature authority: President Wacker, Secretary Hancock, Treasurer Hollst and Vice President Daniell are authorized to sign checks, warrants and other instruments on behalf of the district.
The board reauthorized access to a $1,000,000 line of credit at First State Bank-Yutan, at an indicated interest rate of 4.5 percent, and authorized the treasurer to sign renewal documents and the superintendent to act as custodian for the line. The motion to approve the renewal was moved by Bill Hancock, seconded by Judy Daniell and approved unanimously (6-0).
On program fees, administration recommended no change to the district’s preschool tuition; the board voted to keep the rate at $120 per month for the 2026–27 school year. The motion was moved by Bill Hancock, seconded by Dan Ridder and approved 6-0.
The board reviewed and approved a set of policies presented by the administration, including policies on student records, directory information, communication with parents, custodial and noncustodial parents’ rights, law enforcement contact with students, and student illness (policy numbers 5016, 5017, 5019, 5020, 5022 and 5023). The vote to approve the presented policies was unanimous.
Informational items included the draft 2026–27 calendar, an extended list of policies slated for review, a strategic plan discussion and notice of the NASB Legislative Issues Conference. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Feb. 9, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the high school media center.
Late in the meeting the board voted unanimously to enter closed session under state statute to discuss collective bargaining negotiations with the Yutan Education Association; the board entered closed session at 7:53 p.m. and reconvened at 9:11 p.m. The transcript records that no action was taken during the closed session.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:11 p.m.
