Morrill Public Schools board recognizes teachers’ union, adopts policies and approves security upgrades

In a unanimous vote of the members present, the board recognized the Morrill Education Association (MEA) as the exclusive bargaining unit for Morrill Public Schools teachers. Rob Martin moved the recognition and Sue Gompert seconded; the motion passed with four members voting yea and one member absent.
The board also approved a package of policy updates and revisions. Policies acted on included Policy 1002 (Creation, Amendment and Distribution of Policies), Policy 2006 (Complaint Procedure), Policy 2008 (Meetings), Policy 3003 (Bidding for Construction, Remodeling, Repair, or Site Improvement), Policy 3026 (Handbooks), and Policy 3047 (Data Breach Response). Rob Martin moved the policies as presented and Jim Scott seconded; the board voted 4-0 with one absence to adopt the changes.
On facilities and security, the board approved AST’s quote of $5,018.00 for purchase and installation of badge readers at the high school and elementary school. The motion was made by Rob Martin and seconded by Sue Gompert and passed with the same 4-0 vote among members present. The board separately approved purchase of one camera for the high school and three cameras for the elementary school; that motion passed on a motion by Rob Martin and a second by Jim Scott.
At 7:49 p.m. the board voted to enter an executive session limited to negotiations; the motion was made by Sue Gompert and seconded by Rob Martin. The board exited the executive session at 8:15 p.m. on a motion by Rob Martin. The minutes record that the executive session was restricted to negotiations; no additional details of negotiation content are provided in the minutes.
