Sterling commissioners approve library appointments, event permits and set pool opening

At its May 18 meeting the Sterling Board of Commissioners appointed Marilee Kruse and Hannah Langford to vacant Library Board seats and approved the consent agenda, which included accounts payable for May 13, special-event permits for the Old Fashioned Fourth of July and a Fourth of July Street Dance (submitted by Sterling Chamber of Commerce / Sterling Main Street), a tractor pull for the Great Plains Antique Tractor Club, and a fireworks display application from Rainbow Fireworks, Inc. Commissioner Todd Rowland moved to approve the agenda of routine items; Commissioner Richard L. Jones Jr. seconded and the vote on the consent agenda and appointments was recorded as 4-0.

City Manager Jan Hutcheson recognized Police Officer Justin Carter for earning a Master of Business Administration from Western Governor's University with a specialization in information technology project management. Mayor Brian Inwood and Commissioner Todd Rowland both thanked Sterling Chamber of Commerce / Sterling Main Street Executive Director Stacy Clark and city staff for work on event layouts and recent repairs.

Hutcheson also briefed the board on recent storm cleanup and infrastructure repairs, reminded residents that the Sterling Municipal Swimming Pool opens Saturday, May 23 from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M., and noted the Park Advisory Board will meet Thursday, May 21 at 6:00 P.M. Commissioner Richard L. Jones Jr. asked about the developer obligation to permanently pave the temporary road at Kruse Way in Peace Estates Phase 1; Hutcheson said the development agreement requires permanent paving in fall 2026.

The meeting adjourned after commissioners heard the reports and there was no executive session.
