Prescott Public Library trustees elect Jerry Klasen president, approve City MOU and summer-reading plans

Jerry Klasen was elected president of the Prescott Public Library Board of Trustees and the board approved routine business, a City-Library memorandum of understanding and plans for summer programming at its May 21 meeting.
The board convened at 6:36 p.m.; a quorum was confirmed and the agenda was adopted after a motion by Adam Granquist and a second from Susan Oney. Trustees approved the March 19 minutes and accepted the Director’s and financial reports by voice vote.
Carissa Langer, the library director, presented the Director’s Report and outlined recent programming and outreach: participation at the Malone Carnival and the Peeps event, ongoing outreach by staff member Darian to visit schools and provide additional storytimes, and the Friends of the Library’s continued fundraising and volunteer support for summer reading. Langer said the sidewalk and parking-lot work is scheduled to begin in June and reported the library will apply for a Rob-See-So grant (the program awards ten $500 grants to selected rural libraries). The board moved to accept the Director’s Report (motion by Adam Granquist; seconded by Susan Oney) and the motion carried.
Under old business the board discussed and accepted a memorandum of understanding with the City of Prescott after Carissa Langer confirmed IFLS had reviewed the document. Adam Granquist moved to accept the MOU; Susan Oney seconded and the motion carried.
During the annual officer appointments the board discussed representative changes and nominations. Because Anne Kressly is retiring from her current representative role, the minutes state Penny Peterson will serve as the Prescott School District representative beginning at the next meeting. Nominations for president were Jerry Klasen and Anne Kressly; the minutes report vote totals of Jerry Klasen 3 and Anne Kressly 1. The board then moved to confirm the remaining officers into their current roles (motion by Adam Granquist; seconded by Jerry Klasen); the motion carried. The minutes list officers as President: Jerry Klasen; Vice President: Anne Kressly; Secretary: Tasslyn Magnusson; Treasurer: Amy Fiege.
The board reviewed summer-reading plans under the theme “Unearth a Story.” The minutes include two date references regarding the kick-off: an earlier line references June 4 as a date when Friends will help, while a later line lists the official kick-off as June 3 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; the Friends remain scheduled to assist and are fundraising for the program. Carissa Langer also reported at least $1,300 in donations earmarked for summer reading.
The meeting closed after the board set policy-rotation items for the next meeting. Susan Oney moved to adjourn at 7:07 p.m.; Adam Granquist seconded and the motion carried. The minutes were submitted by Secretary Tasslyn Magnusson.
