Mayor Sydney Wiley and Clerk/Treasurer Stacy Mills presented a schedule of required steps: present a resolution of intent on Oct. 28; hold a public hearing at the Nov. 11 council meeting; send a notice of public hearing and deliver required legal notices (including a copy to the Consumer Counsel) in late November/early December; mail a notice to all water users by Dec. 1; and bring the final resolution before the council on Dec. 9 so the increase would not take effect until at least 10 days later and be reflected on bills beginning Jan. 1, 2025. Council member Brian Eckenrod moved to approve the timeline and Council member Teresa Saari seconded; the motion was approved and passed.
During discussion, a resident asked for the dollar amount of the proposed increase. Mayor Wiley said the council had not set a dollar figure at the meeting, noting that the town plans to use a calculated formula from the Department of Rural Water to determine the final rate.
The timeline approval signals the council's intention to follow the formal public-notice and hearing steps required before adopting a rate change. The town also plans a presentation of the rate formula to the council at an upcoming meeting (Council member Eckenrod will contact the presenter identified as Bobbi).
