Bainville council meeting: permits approved, claims and payroll cleared, and committee notices

At its Aug. 12 regular meeting, the Bainville Town Council handled routine municipal business, including approving claims and journal vouchers totaling $29,779.77 and payroll of $10,633.22. Carol Rasmussen moved to approve the claims and journal vouchers and Will Rathbun seconded; Will Rathbun moved to approve payroll and Carol Rasmussen seconded; both motions passed unanimously.
The council approved two building permits contingent on property-line inspections by Mayor Toby Romo: a fence for Angie Kummer’s daycare yard (motion by John Gilligan; second Carol Rasmussen) and a pergola for Jeff Holte (motion by Carol Rasmussen; second Will Rathbun). Both were approved unanimously with the condition of mayoral inspection.
The council also approved hiring Samantha Mahlen to submit the 2024–2025 budget (motion by Will Rathbun; second John Gilligan), discussed the requirement to staff three volunteer positions for the Local Government Review Study Committee, and noted that Chet McLean has begun work on the Annual Financial Report. Mayor Romo said the fireworks policy was revised on the advice of the town attorney and will be posted to the town website.
In public comment, resident Kirk Panasuk asked who enforces driving and parking violations (including parking on sidewalks) and raised concerns about young people operating dirt bikes and golf carts in town. The meeting adjourned at 7:52 p.m.; the next meeting is Sept. 9, 2024. The minutes are not yet approved.
