"Our current accreditation is on probation status due to audit reports being submitted late," McDonald said. Assistant Superintendent Ernest "Tony" Fields added that many districts across Mississippi face similar challenges with audit timelines. Board member Dr. C. Dianne Bunch emphasized that the district should make this context clear to the press; McDonald said she will do so.
McDonald reported other administrative updates to the board. She said she is participating in the Mississippi Department of Education Superintendent Institute and plans to present initiatives to the board stemming from that program. The district has been awarded the Canopy Anywhere Grant from the Mississippi Department of Health; McDonald said the grant comes at no cost to the district and that staff will meet with Canopy representatives to discuss implementation.
The board heard that district staff (Mr. Fields and safety lead Melvin Davis) met with Rhonda Page of the Boys and Girls Club to coordinate plans to open a local club by December. Mrs. Page was described in the minutes as serving as a facilitator to align vision and logistics; Dr. Bunch asked that Mr. Fields coordinate with the city to request barricades for the homecoming parade route.
