Council reappoints commissioners, swears in firefighter and highlights summer events

The Glasgow City Council approved several routine personnel actions, recognized a new firefighter and shared upcoming community events during its meeting.
City Attorney Rich Alexander read municipal actions reappointing Byron Sorrell to the Barren County Tourist and Convention Commission for a three-year term ending June 30, 2029, and reappointing Beth Wagner to the Historic Preservation Commission for a two-year term ending May 31, 2028; both reappointments passed by voice vote.
Fire Chief Lucas Tinsley introduced probationary firefighter Nate Johnson, praising his commitment and work ethic: "I appreciate Nate's commitment to service, his eagerness to learn, and his excellent work ethic," Tinsley said. The mayor administered the oath of office and Johnson was welcomed to the Glasgow Fire Department.
Council members and community speakers also highlighted downtown events: a SIP, Shop and Stroll on June 6, a spring car show on June 13, and a Plaza Theatre concert on June 13 benefiting the Kiwanis Club. Eddie Furlong of Parks & Recreation announced the Movies Under the Stars series at Beavercreek, beginning this Friday with Zootopia 2 at about 7:30 p.m., featuring free popcorn and vendors.
The council set its next regular meeting for June 8 at 6 p.m. and adjourned following a motion and second.
