Oxnard city clerk recommends 2027 council calendar with 25 regular and 21 committee meetings

Lully Lopez, Oxnard city clerk, told the City Council the recommendation is that “the city council, community development commission successor agency, financing authority, and housing authority adopt the proposed regular meeting dates for the calendar year 2027.”
Lopez said the proposed calendar follows the city code that schedules City Council meetings on the first and third Tuesdays and committee meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays. Staff listed a total of 25 regular City Council meetings and 21 city council committee meetings for 2027 and noted the council retains authority to schedule additional special meetings as needed.
The clerk cited a prior ordinance read in the presentation (transcribed as “ordinance number 29 49”) that amended Chapter 2, Article 1 and added Section 2-1.1 to the Oxnard City Code, and said those changes took effect Jan. 1, 2019. Lopez also described the typical daily timing for meetings: regular sessions are scheduled to begin no earlier than 5 p.m., public hearings generally start at 6:15 p.m., and closed sessions are sometimes scheduled as early as 4:30 p.m.
Lopez said certain Tuesdays in August are excluded from the regular schedule because the council recesses that month. She encouraged residents to participate in person or virtually and noted meetings are broadcast on Spectrum channel 10 and Frontier Communications channel 35, and streamed and archived on the city’s YouTube channel accessible at www.oxnard.gov/city-meetings. The proposed 2027 calendar will also be included in the weekly neighborhood packet.
No formal motion, vote, or final action on the calendar was recorded in the presented remarks; Lopez’s presentation concluded with an invitation for any further action or direction by the council.
