Dorchester trustees hire cemetery mower, approve cleaning contract and logo shirts

Chairperson Roger Miller called the Village of Dorchester Board of Trustees to order at 5:02 p.m. Friday at the village office and recorded a roll call that showed Trustees Nate Hitchins and Tammie Lang present; Trustees Matt Shaw and Nancy Tellez were excused. Clerk-Treasurer Jen Kasl and Deputy Clerk Dawn Zoubek were also present.
The board approved hiring Deanna Bird as a part-time employee to assist with cemetery mowing and perform mowing in town as needed. Trustee Tammie Lang moved the hire; Trustee Nate Hitchins seconded. The motion carried unanimously among those present (3 yes, 0 no; two trustees excused).
The trustees then addressed contract cleaning for the park bathrooms. Trustee Nate Hitchins first moved to hire Bella Edinger at her current rate of $15 per hour with a plan to re-evaluate salaries in the fall; that motion failed. Chairperson Miller then moved, and Trustee Hitchins seconded, a substitute motion to hire Bella Edinger for deep cleaning and immediately increase both custodial contractors’ wages to $16 per hour. That substitute motion passed (3-0-2).
The board also approved purchasing shirts bearing the Village of Dorchester logo for members of the Board of Trustees. Chairperson Miller moved the purchase, and Trustee Tammie Lang seconded; the motion carried (3-0-2).
Trustee Hitchins moved to adjourn, Chairperson Miller seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 5:17 p.m. Advance notice of the special meeting had been posted at the Dorchester U.S. Post Office, First State Bank NE and Village Hall.
Clerk-Treasurer Jen Kasl and Deputy Clerk Dawn Zoubek were listed as attending in the official minutes. Two trustees were excused from the meeting: Matt Shaw and Nancy Tellez. No ordinances, statutes, or other legal authorities were cited during the discussion.
