EDC hears 28-year sales review and updates on Portland Road, Roux Institute projects

The Kennebunk Economic Development Committee heard an update Jan. 6 on long-term sales trends and several near-term development projects affecting Portland Road, downtown Kennebunk and Lower Village.
Stephen Houdlette, identified in the minutes as “EVD,” presented a handout summarizing 28 years of commercial and residential sales in Kennebunk and outlined current and anticipated projects, including development along Portland Road, planned downtown improvements, renewed Portland Road development efforts and participation or coordination with the Roux Institute’s Venture Forward program. Houdlette also said the town is looking into opportunities for nonmotorized transport improvements in Lower Village.
Bob Georgitis of the Kennebunk Development Corp. told the committee about possibilities for larger private-sector projects, describing potential business investments the KDC is exploring and inviting further committee input and coordination.
Committee members were asked to review the SEDAP (the committee’s strategic economic development action plan) and to identify or suggest projects they believe should be advanced, so staff can prioritize next steps and potential budget requests.
The committee did not take a formal vote on any project during the update; members will continue discussion and provide project suggestions at future meetings.
