Administrator Audree Guzman told the Soldier Township Board that the selection committee used a scoring rubric to evaluate proposals for a new fire station design/build team and recommended top candidates based on those scores. After further discussion, Member Mike Mathes moved to schedule a special meeting for second interviews with the three top-scoring firms to further probe qualifications; Member Jerry Glasgow seconded the motion and it carried. The board set that special meeting for Monday, May 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
Guzman also reviewed the projected timeline for financing the project. The board recorded a plan to: hold a June presentation by the bond counsel firm Gilmore & Bell on bond process and procedure; in July consider a resolution to call for bond issuance for placement on the November general election ballot; finalize ballot language and submit materials to the county in August and September; and, if advanced, have the bond question appear on the November general election ballot. Public engagement on the project is slated to begin in July.
No final contract selection or bond resolution occurred at the May 13 meeting; the board confined action to scheduling follow-up interviews and continuing planning steps. The special meeting will be the next opportunity for the board to take formal selection or financing votes.
