Bainville mayor creates zoning committee, appoints two council members and Fire Chief

Mayor Toby Romo appointed a three-person zoning committee at the Bainville Town Council meeting on Jan. 13, and the council voted unanimously to confirm the appointments.
Appointees are Council member John Gilligan, Council member Will Rathbun and Fire Chief David Norton. Council member Carol Rasmussen moved to approve the appointments and John Gilligan seconded; the motion passed without opposition.
During the Community Development Committee report, members discussed establishing a fund for a new softball field, potentially hiring a consultant to advise on town development and seeking grants to support a new senior center and a local museum. Council did not take formal action beyond approving the appointments; staff and committee members were directed to continue exploring funding and development options.
Council also approved a building permit for a new home submitted by Kayla Heen during new business. That permit was approved by motion and unanimous vote.
Mayor Romo provided a separate update on water-rights work related to the town’s old well, saying he has been working with Dave Granley and Asgard Resources LLC; town attorney Laura Christoffersen is preparing a draft contract. The council did not vote on the water-rights matter at the meeting.
