Mayor reports 420,266-gallon loss; council to investigate private well treatment and rights

Bainville — At the Oct. 21 Bainville Town Council meeting, Mayor Toby Romo reported the town experienced a water loss of 420,266 gallons in September, equal to about 30% of treated water—well above the stated town goal of 10% or less. Romo said a major leak was located and repaired and water loss should decrease in the next reporting period.
Romo also raised a request to release water rights for a well on Dave Granley’s property. Council members discussed the possibility of keeping the private well as a backup source but directed staff to investigate the cost and feasibility of treating that water before any release of rights is considered.
The mayor reported the 2024–25 annual budget and annual financial report have been submitted to the state. Council members also learned Bainville Concrete will not install the new sidewalk this year; the contractor is expected to sign a contract committing to completion in spring 2025.
Clerk Billie Jo Cochran and staff were asked to gather cost estimates and regulatory information on water treatment and to return the item to the November agenda for further consideration.
