The Board of Public Works and Safety denied a request to install speed bumps on 10th Street between Wisconsin Street and Decatur Street at its July 1 meeting and approved alternative traffic-calming measures.
Assistant Police Chief Pochron said the roadway’s width makes speed bumps inadvisable and recommended placing the department’s speed-trailer in the area and increasing patrols. No representative spoke on behalf of the original request at the meeting. Following Pochron’s recommendation the board voted 3–0 to deny the physical speed-bump installation and to deploy the speed trailer and increase patrol presence.
The board’s decision directs staff to proceed with noninfrastructure enforcement and monitoring rather than installing permanent traffic-calming hardware.
