Stanton County Schools honor counselor Liz Harms; board approves coach hire and graduation cords

At its Jan. 14 meeting, the Stanton County Unified School District #452 Board of Education recognized Mrs. Liz Harms, a counselor at Stanton County High School, and the National Honor Society for their work on the Angel Tree program, which supplies gifts and support to students and families during the holiday season.
Superintendent Dave Novack and board members acknowledged the school community’s role in the program; several classes made cards and provided cookies for the board. The minutes state Mrs. Harms serves as school counselor and junior class sponsor and has been instrumental in guiding the Angel Tree initiative alongside National Honor Society students.
The board also handled routine personnel and commencement items. Following two brief executive sessions, the board approved hiring Katarina Phillips as junior high assistant track coach on a motion by Paige German, seconded by Val Zamudio; motion carried 6‑0. The board approved allowing students to wear 4‑H and collegiate cords at graduation after discussion; Bobbie Ehrlich moved to approve and Val Zamudio seconded, and the motion carried 6‑0.
Board members closed the meeting with comments urging clearer coordination on the district website and social media alerts. President Lettie Nickell asked Board Clerk Melissa Wilson to circulate next month’s calendar of activities. The meeting adjourned at 8:07 p.m.
