Utility director reports near-completion of meter replacement and several infrastructure updates

Utility Director Jason told the Ascension Parish Utilities Committee that the meter replacement project is nearly complete (about 24 meters remain), two 3-inch meters are missing and awaiting reimbursement, standby generators for Saint Jude are on order, intake/pumping work is being rebid, and the plant has hired new operators; he also reported 2,211 Louisiana call tickets since the start of the year.
Jason, the parish utility director, told the committee July 16 that the meter replacement project is largely finished and described several operations and staffing updates.
“The meter project is pretty much complete. We have about 24 meters left to change out,” Jason said. He reported two 3-inch meters are missing and noted reimbursement is expected from the contractor or the Corps of Engineers. He said staff are finalizing documents for the Line Improvement Project (Water Sector Round 1) and reallocating remaining funds to additional piping projects.
Jason also said standby emergency generators for Saint Jude are on order, the intake structure at the Palo Alto pumping station will be moved to McCall, and the Sorrento stations are being rebid over line-item issues. He reported the jail control panel relocation is complete and a new generator is in place at the jail. The water plant has hired two operator I positions, an operator III who will start next week, and has attracted a utility supervisor for the distribution crew.
On customer service workload, Jason reported the utility has handled 2,211 Louisiana call tickets since the beginning of the year, a strain on staff. When asked about CF and Hyundai distribution work, he said CF has installed two 2-inch meters and a backflow preventer on one site, and Hyundai will complete staking soon, with final work expected within about a week once stakes are set.
Jason said staff are pursuing a supplemental 12-inch line to improve capacity and are currently monitoring and limiting new allocations to protect the integrity of the system and existing customers.
